A Little Lady for a Little Lady

A very close friend's daughter is soon to turn 1. She's already quite the poser, always smiling for the camera, and will definitely grow up to have very discerning fashion tastes, if her mummy is anything to go by. My friend likes a lot of things oriental, and I'm sure when baby grows up she'll appreciate the beauty on that side of the world too. As a tiny pre-emption of this discovery she'll make, I've fashioned for her a bookmark with a little kimono-clad lady on. It's not quite origami (there's glue involved), but there was some folding, and some very amusing english translations of the instructions in the otherwise Japanese-oriented kit.

Isn't the paper gorgeous? It's all textured and a little bit foamy around the edges of the flowers. I love Japanese paper.

Oh, and I know it's a bookmark, and she's only turning 1, but she's already taken her first step and she'll be intelligent beyond her years, I know it. Plus mummy will enjoy reading to her.

Pretty in Pink

Today was a close friend's daughter's christening in London. I wanted to make something special for baby Rosetta, or Rosie, something that she wouldn't get from anyone else. So I purchased a box frame, a few embellishments, and prepared to go pink.

First of all, I painted the outer frame in a dark pink and the inner frame in a lighter pink. Then I cut a square of patterned paper (I can't remember what it is or where it's from, I've had it so long) to fit in the recess. I cut a big letter 'R' for Rosetta from pink cardstock, and a slightly smaller one from a sheet of paper from the Basic Grey 'Bittersweet' collection.

After sticking down some flowers and buttons I adhered the letter to the background with foam pads so that it stands out.

Two of the embellishments I bought were a tiny basket and a bunch of tiny pink roses. I arranged these in the bottom corner of the frame, keeping one aside for decorating the letter. I tied the rose to the letter with some pink ricrac.

And added some buttons to finish of the decoration of the letter. To decorate the frame, I simply stamped a line of flowers along one side.

I finished off the frame with a tiny wooden pram, stained white. That's it. I hope mummy likes it. And I hope it'll stick around long enough for Rosetta to know it!

Hey, Baby Girl

Another set of cards for friends and family. This time, for a new baby girl:

I'm keeping it simple because I'm making in bulk. I made 10 of these, for example. To complete the collections I just need to add some female birthdays, some blanks, some get wells, and maybe a housewarming or two. And all by the end of this month!

Cute Dinosaurs for a Baby Boy

Toga's super-cute dino stamps have made their way onto a card I've made for a friend... in fact, I made a set of them for her because she has a whole bunch of friends who are expecting babies soon. For this card, I embossed the dinosaurs and used chalk inks for the tree and footprint. The little strip of paper at the base of the card is Scenic Route's Argyle design. I found a really boxy font and cut the words 'new baby' using the Cricut. I wanted to avoid traditional baby-related icons but stay cutesy, and for me these stamps provided the answer.

Baby, Baby

One of my closest friends is having a baby soon. Her husband is American so they are having a baby shower, something about which I have absolutely no information, experience, knowledge...! So I turn to my trusty craft collection, only to find that I have absolutely no baby craft material! Time to be resourceful...

An envelope and detail:

A card of course, and a gift bag:

Hope the parents-to-be like them!
